In 1983, a group of women and men met at College Park Baptist Church, Greensboro, NC, to consider forming an organization to support North Carolina women who felt a call to ministry. The twenty-five women and men present voted unanimously to establish a task force to work toward a formal organization and, a year later, a statement of purpose was adopted and Baptist Women in Ministry, NC (BWIM,NC) was born. We were then and are now committed to working for the day when both women and men have the opportunity to follow God’s call to ministry.
BWIM,NC provides a network of support for women who feel called to ministry through retreats, fellowship, mentoring partnerships, newsletters, and social media. We fund scholarships for Baptist women at our four partnering NC Divinity Schools; we provide opportunities for divinity school students to gain training, support, and experience in all areas of ministry. With the annual Anne Thomas Neil Award, we recognize those individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the cause of women in ministry and our annual Church Award is presented to congregations who are exemplary in supporting and encouraging the cause of women in ministry.
Our patchwork “quilt” brings together women, men, and churches from across our state to use our gifts for ministry fully and freely. You are invited to “piece your square” with ours.
